Strip the Wall - And Tease Some Stocks Too

WallStrip is my favorite user generated net tv show about stocks. "User generated" is a stretch here, though, as both Lindsay Campbell, the savvy host(ess) – which one is PC? - and the producer, Howard Lindzon are truly seasoned pros.

Lindsay has appeared on Law & Order and the Sopranos, in the film "Our Bundle of Extraordinary Joy" and performs in theaters all over NYC.

Howard is a self-confessed addicted entrepreneur, investor, hedge fund manager, and all around interesting guy, according to StockTickr, a social stock trading blog.

In this segment Lindsay and Howard revisit five fabulously fabulous companies: Apple, Garmin, Electronic Arts, Chipotle, and Altria. The big bad tobacco company, Phillip Morris, that Altria is....

In case you wonder, you get to be fabulously fabulous when you make tons of money for your investors. Any questions?

Seeing IS Believing

While the way I've been testing widgets so far shouldn't necessarily be - that is, dropping the code into the body section of a blank html page.

Steve Rosenbaum's Magnify.net code works just fine when plugged directly into the blog. It even scales down perfectly, from 195x284 pixels to 135x196, which is what you will see from now on makeitv.com.

That big OOPS below is on me...thank you Steve for teaching me a shorter way to test, though!

Seeing Red with Magnify.net

Don't know about you, but I've been sick and tired of watching mostly "Preview Image Not Available" on Search Video's roll (under the calendar). So I decided to try another widget, available free at Steve Rosenbaum's Magnify.net. The choice was easy, after seeing how simple it was to set up our iTV 21 channel on the site.

Steve started Camera Planet 21 years ago with six dollars and a VHS camcorder. Now they're one of the largest producers and distributors of film, tv, and documentary projects in New York City. Recently he founded Magnify Media to enable all of us to freely use the technology they developed. As he says:

"I've been making media my entire life. Documentaries, tv programs, feature docs. But always with a middleman calling the tune, and paying the cost of production. For as long as I can remember, I was hoping for a day when the people that I made media for would pay (or not pay if they didn't like the work). Well I believe that time is now. Distribution is the future of media - and we'll work with our friends and partners to figure out this critically important piece of the puzzle."

Alas, the roll just rolls red rectangles, loading nothing. Another thing is, that the videos - Jaw Dropping Fire Poi...Super Pussy (it's NOT what you think, you...), Twisted Transistor, etc... - had nothing to do with the category I specified: Web Communities & Services. You do get to see the videos on their original sites, though, if you click on them. (Not on the image below, but the real thing.)

No problem, Steve - we'll wait for this to work. You and your crew certainly have your hands and screens full. Thanks for the opportunity!

Total Recall, Now on the Small Screen Near You

That is, on your iPod, courtesy of iTunes, and all other legal (and we are LEGAL, aren't we all!?) movie download sites, I'm sure.

Apple iTunes

In case you forgot (I did), the movie is set in the year 2084. Douglas Quaid (aka Guv of CA these days) is a construction worker who has been having dreams about being on the planet Mars with a sexy brunette. (What else???) After seeing an ad from Rekall, a company that sells imaginary adventures by implanting memories, he decides to get a 'vacation' in Mars from them, one in which he will take a vacation from himself as a spy: the ego trip called "Blue Skies on Mars."

All right, that's enough. I don't get a commission to sell the movie the Nth+1 time. Enjoy, if you're into Hollywoodian Sci-fi.

YouTube's Virtual Awards Show in the Offing

YouTube is holding its first Video Awards to recognize the best-user created videos of 2006. Your video wizardry, if you have made it there, is evaluated in seven categories: most creative, most inspirational, best series, best comedy, musician of the year, best commentary and "most adorable video ever."

The nominees, picked by YouTube members, will be compiled in a gallery at YTAwards.

Go vote on your favorites beginning from today, 3/19 till Friday 2/24. I voted for Pachelbel Rant, below:

The winners (may we and you be one of them), chosen by our peers, will be announced March 25. Each will be prominently featured on YouTube and receive a "virtual" trophy, fame, and fortune. OK, the last one probably depends mostly on your ability to exploit the first two, doesn't it?

Video Chat-Not with WengoVisio

WengoVisio is an offshoot of Wengo.com (Beta), a video/audio enabled expert market website. I signed up a few months ago to evaluate how it works. What intrigued me was the possibility of conducting real-time consulting via live video and
providing video lessons or exercises on demand. All seamlessly integrated with instant payment processing. Finish your session and walk away with money in the bank if your client is satisfied. Can't beat the concept!

Alas, at the time I could not make the video widget work. As my custom, I revisit promising video related web services from time to time to keep up with things. So I find that now they have a new video offering at WengoVisio.com...

along with this new widget, which still doesn't work.... Maybe one day, hopefully soon, it will. This is such a great example of a useful web video application, it would be a shame if it got derailed on, what looks like a relatively minor technical issue.

ON A DIFFERENT NOTE...

A welcome change you'll see in the right colum from now on is the multi-blog bookmarking and subscription buttons, courtesy of AddThis.com. They enable you to list us, or subscribe to us on your favorite social bookmarking site with only a few clicks, right from there.

P.S. WENGOVISIO UPDATE FROM GUIREC

That was quick! In his reply to me Guirec says that the widget doesn't work with WordPress blogs yet; they are working on a full-flash release, which should be out by the end of March.

We'll check out WengoVisio in a month or so and add it to this and other sites and blogs if it works. Thanks Guirec for being so responsive!
