Comparing the Tubes : YouTube, Yahoo, MetaCafe, Google, Revver, AOL, DailyMotion, BlipTV, Veoh, Crackle (Sony), Myspace

I produced and uploaded a new into video for CarbonTicker’s Carbon Savings Account through TubeMogul, on November 9 around 10 PM. (Yes, I work (some) Sunday nights…). I then decided to compare the transmission and service quality one can expect from these sites today. I collected data between November 10 and November 12. Must say this exercise has turned out to be a real eye-opener - literally.

Obviously, all of these video sharing services are free, so this is definitely NOT a “gripe-fest.” What you have here is a “quick and dirty” look at the state of web video today, based on the following criteria:

Video availability 24 hours after upload: Yes = 10, No = 0
Image clarity:
Download speed:
Ease of obtaining embed code:
Pre-roll ad tagged-on: Yes = 0, No = 10
Points: 0 - 10, 10 being best for image clarity, download speed, and

Shatner Is a Shaman - Merges Revver and LiveUniverse

Not really but a good way to capture your attention, isn't it?

The Revver and LiveUniverse deal is true, though. Revver did announce that they are now "part of the LiveUniverse network of sites." Sounds official (everybody at the companies waxes eloquent about this wonderful turn of events, as expected) yet I can't shake the feeling this is not good for the larger community. Why? Because it means one more of the original cast of video sharing sites has bitten the star dust.
LiveUniverse claims its sites are visited by more than 55 million unique users each month, so video creators on Revver are now exposed to a much bigger audience. We'll see ... literally.

In association with this new partnership, Revver's best known creators GameZombie, Black Nerd Comedy and Pansy Warrior Princess all began publishing live shows on LiveVideo, LiveUniverse's signature live broadcast portal. Want your own live show? Head over to LiveVideo.com and check it out. Here is one from ShatnerVision, called "Shatner Is A Shaman." Enough said....

A New Way to Earn from Your Videos via Flixya

Do you need to earn more from your contextual ads like Google's Adsense? I know most of us want to earn much more than we are having right now. Now you have a shot at making more on Flixya by just watching and uploading your favorite videos and photos.

Flixya

This program works the same as Shareapic but with slight differences between them. Shareapic pays you with every photo's pageview and shares Adsense space if people view it on their the public gallery. Flixya however, lets their members upload both photos and videos and shares 100% revenue to their pageviews. Yes, that's right! Everytime people view the photos and videos you uploaded, your ads will be advertised on its specific page. Now that's what I call a perfect way to earn while enjoying.

After registration, Flixya will ask for your Adsense account. This is needed in order for them to set up the 100% revenue sharing for Adsense. You don't need to worry about your account details. They will only ask for your email address (which is your login ID for all Google services, including GMail), but not your password. Your Adsense account does remain secure and your payment details and other information are not accessible to Flixya.

Once you sucessfully register you can start earning by uploading videos from YouTube, Google Video, Metacafe, Veoh, Revver and other related programs. You can also upload your photos in any category like personal photos, celebrities, travels, pets, cars, sports, anime, etc. Blogs and community services for inviting other people to view your own custome gallery are also there for you. My favorite part of this service is that you can easily track your pageview count on your account section page

Im still new to Flixya but it seems works for me just fine. From my first 24 hours in the program, I already received 72 pageviews, with just 6 videos I'd uploaded. That's a good start for a newcomer, I think!

Summary:

1) Make an account on Flixya to start up.
2) Set the 100% revenue sharing up for Google Adsense.
3) Upload videos your (and photos) to start earning.
4) Try their blog and other services to increase your traffic.

Be a TubeMogul for Free!

For about a year now TubeMogul’s beta site has empowered online video publishers, advertisers, and the online video industry with its “Universal Upload” video distribution, publishing, and analytical tools.

While we signed up a good while ago, we have been waiting for them to shed the not-so-distinctive beta status before actually using the service. They seem to be getting close, so here is their pitch, in their own words:

There are a growing number of independent content producers like us, looking to build their brands on the path to stardom. Some you may already now: Average Betty, the comedy chef, magician Brian Brushwood, or Charles Trippy, one of the top video bloggers. Perhaps even more than the internet media companies producing content for the Web, we are hurt by the time spent with day-to-day "technology administration," such as file uploading and viewership measurement. Many of us spend up to 20% of our time in these activities, time away from the creative work needed to produce great content.

So what do you get with a free account?

• One-step upload to a growing number of sites: YouTube, Metacafe, Myspace, Yahoo, Revver, AOL Video, DailyMotion, and Brightcove at present.

• Increased reach: With your videos on more sites at no extra effort, your opportunity to gain viewers multiplies. TubeMogul claims that beta users of Universal Upload have witnessed up to 3x more views per video.

• Track Trends & Buzz: Create groups of videos important to you or your industry and track spikes in viewership to identify trends and monitor the pulse of online video viewers.

• Assess Marketing Efforts - assess the effectiveness of your marketing efforts by analyzing spikes and trends in viewership across any range of time.

• Competitive Intelligence - see what's working for your counterparts and competition and compare and contrast viewership trends with your own.

• Share the Intelligence - send and share data and charts with colleagues or friends.

VideoCounter Will Count Your Video Views

Now you can monitor the success of your videos for free on:

- YouTube
- MySpaceTV - wouldn't work with my URL:
http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=6569195
(probably still looking for video.myspace.com URL)
- Revver
- iFilm
- Dailymotion

and these German video sites:

- Clipfish
- Sevenload
- Videotube

with VideoCounter for an unlimited period. Sign up free to add up to five links of your videos or up to five video sharing sites they are on. Log in daily to check your report like the one below.

A great service, developed by Dr. Robert Biermann. Read why he developed this site on the "About Us" page:

"I run VideoCounter.com together with VCTech. I am fascinated by the possibilities offered by video portals. In my professional capacity for the company Webeffekt AG, which specializes in search engines, I use video portals and video communities to provide information about internet marketing topics. You can look for my contributions by searching for the keyword 'webeffekt' on the portals. I was very interested to find out how often my videos were watched in different video communities and how this developed over the course of time. Even though increasing viewing numbers are great it did take me some time to collect the data manually on a regular basis. This is the idea behind VideoCounter.com, which regularly performs this task for me. Free online tools that I am also involved with are:

- AdLog24.com allows checking the success rate of online-advertising
- Termprofile.com helps translators with quality control
- Komerca.tv is an editorial video search service for significant videos
- Linkpartner.de is a platform for exchanging links between websites
- VideoOnlineMarketing.de offers systematic video online advertising"

I say here is one busy man!

WallStrip Does It ... In 6 Months

WallStrip, the daily web show devoted to irreverent stock news
see my previous post about it here, announced yesterday morning:

CBS is buying us and we WON'T tell you for how much!

The six-month-old program has been on YouTube, Veoh, Blip.tv, iTunes, Yahoo! Podcasts, Google Finance, TheStreet.com, AOL Uncut, vSocial and Revver. And from now on CBS....

Much of its success is credited to host Lindsay Campbell. She is often compared to former Rocketboom host Amanda Congdon, who was picked up last year by ABC News. Lindsay will stay on as host. WallStrip's producers Adam Elend and Jeff Marks will produce original web video for CBS. Creator Howard Lindzon will become a consultant for the network. When the shooting gets hot, the hot go corporate ... or something like that. Never mind the sour grapes from me - congratulations WallStrip!

The 30 Second Video Rule

by Kevin Nalts of Will Video For Food fame fits in perfectly with the subject of this blog! He is an absolutely hilarious writer, making it inevitable for me to just quote him...

"Has more than 300 short videos that have been viewed more than 7 million times, and featured on such sites as YouTube, Google Video, Yahoo, Yahoo Video, Break, Metacafe and Revver.

He is a serial runner up for contests. He was a first prize winner in the Butterfinger “FollowTheFinger.com” Everyday Moments contest. He was a first round winner of the BarterBee “Be the Bee” contest for consumer-generated promotional videos, and has been a finalist in such contests as Mentos, Dave Chappelle Show, KissKissBangBang and Panasonic. He also has created viral videos for Mentos that have been used in advertisements on such sites as Google Video and Break.com.

His self-serving “Viral Video Genius” was featured on YouTube’s homepage, and DIY Conferences is calling him a “Viral Videologist.” He really likes that title because it helps him cope with self esteem problems. He and his videos have appeared on CNN, ABC Nightline, BBC, Fox and CBS News.

In addition to creating videos, he covers the industry in this blog and as a writer for TheDailyReel. He also speaks at industry events to help video creators learn how to monetize their work, and advertisers better optimize online video.

His best 30-40 videos are in this YouTube Nalts playlist and in the Revver “Best o’ Nalts” collection. His day job is healthcare marketing via emerging channels. As a hobby, he’s passionate about online videos. Nalts also manages an online video site (CubeBreak.com).

Despite his videos’ low production value, Nalts has a background in video production and television. He attended Georgetown University, and Babson for an MBA in entrepreneurship. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and four children (and his cousin, a former Green Beret and NYPD cop… who kills stalkers for a living)." So make sure you LOL plenty for him to hear you!
